Top Attractions
Terracotta Warriors Museum
The undisputed highlight of any Xi'an visit. Three massive pits contain thousands of life-sized warriors, horses, and chariots. Each figure has unique facial features — no two are alike. Located 40km east of Xi'an; plan 3-4 hours for the visit.
Xi'an City Wall
The most complete ancient city wall in China, stretching 13.7 km around the old city. Rent a bicycle and cycle the full circuit (1.5-2 hours) for incredible views of the old city within and modern skyscrapers beyond. Beautiful at sunset.
Muslim Quarter
A bustling street food paradise and living testament to Xi'an's Silk Road heritage. Try yangrou paomo (lamb soup with bread), roujiamo (Chinese burger), cold noodles, and freshly squeezed pomegranate juice. Visit the Great Mosque, a unique blend of Chinese and Islamic architecture.
Big Wild Goose Pagoda
Built in 652 AD to house Buddhist scriptures brought from India by the monk Xuanzang. This seven-story pagoda rises 64 meters in the Da Ci'en Temple complex. Visit in the evening for the spectacular musical fountain show at the North Square.
Huaqing Hot Springs
Famous for its romantic love story between Emperor Xuanzong and his beloved concubine Yang Guifei. The hot spring palace at the foot of Lishan Mountain offers beautiful Tang-style architecture. Combine with a visit to the Terracotta Warriors nearby.
Best Time to Visit
Spring (Mar-May)
Pleasant temperatures (12-25°C) and blooming flowers. Cherry blossoms at Qinglong Temple in late March are spectacular. Occasional rain but generally comfortable for outdoor sightseeing.
Autumn (Sep-Nov)
The golden season — crisp, clear days with temperatures between 10-25°C. Perfect for cycling the City Wall and exploring outdoor sites. The Mid-Autumn Festival brings a festive atmosphere to the Muslim Quarter.
Summer (Jun-Aug)
Hot (30-38°C) and humid. June is better than July-August. Early morning or late afternoon visits recommended. The Wild Goose Pagoda fountain show is especially refreshing on summer nights.
Winter (Dec-Feb)
Cold (-5 to 5°C) with occasional snow. The City Wall under snow is stunning and crowds are minimal. Excellent deals on hotels. The Terracotta Warriors museum is climate-controlled year-round.
