The world's largest ancient palace complex with 980 buildings and over 1.8 million artifacts. A UNESCO World Heritage site that was home to Ming and Qing dynasty emperors for 492 years. Plan at least half a day to explore its grand halls, courtyards, and imperial gardens.

Great Wall at Mutianyu
Escape the crowds at this beautifully restored section featuring 23 watchtowers, dense forest surroundings, and a thrilling toboggan ride down. Cable car access makes it suitable for all fitness levels. About 1.5 hours from central Beijing.
Temple of Heaven
A masterpiece of Ming dynasty architecture where emperors prayed for good harvests. Visit in the early morning to watch locals practice tai chi, play traditional instruments, and fly kites in the surrounding park — a genuine slice of Beijing daily life.

Summer Palace
The largest and best-preserved royal garden in China, centered around Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill. Stroll the 728-meter Long Corridor adorned with over 14,000 paintings, and take a boat ride across the lake for panoramic views.
Beijing Hutongs

Best Time to Visit
Spring (Mar-May)
Mild temperatures (10-25°C), blooming flowers, and clear skies make this the most pleasant season. April is ideal with cherry blossoms in Yuyuantan Park. Occasional sandstorms possible in March.
Autumn (Sep-Nov)
Golden season with crisp air, comfortable temperatures, and brilliant fall foliage at the Summer Palace and Fragrant Hills. October holidays bring crowds — book well in advance.
Summer (Jun-Aug)
Hot and humid (30-38°C) with occasional rain. July-August can be crowded with domestic tourism. Early mornings are best for sightseeing. Great time for Great Wall with lush green scenery.
Winter (Dec-Feb)
Cold and dry (-5 to 5°C) but fewer tourists and lower prices. The Forbidden City under snow is magical. Ice skating on Houhai Lake and Harbin-style ice festivals nearby. Excellent deals on hotels and flights.
